The new Need For Speed series for classic age squaregaiters has all the hallmarks of a history making advance.
To be held in conjunction with the incredibly successful Lyn McPherson Memorial Breed For Speed Series for trotting mares for the first time in 2015, the rich new series is yet another incentive for breeders to support the squaregaiting industry with the expectation of a quicker return on investment.
The Premier Speed Series for juvenile trotters in Australasia, The Need For Speed will boast two Group One Finals, one for each sex, both bearing an estimated $60,000 (guaranteed minimum) in prizemoney in year one.
HRV’s visionary plan to promote the trotter is seminal to the Need For Speed series, the ambition to further develop what is already a thriving futurity market is also integral to this new initiative.
Futurity racing – a requisite staple in the leading harness and thoroughbred racing nations around the world – provides the proving ground for our Grand Circuit stars of the future while also stimulating breeding aspirations and promoting Australia as an attractive market in which to race a horse.
It also affords breeders and owners the chance to dream bigger than ever before.
Will our inaugural Need For Speed champions go on to represent Australia in Solvalla’s famed Elitlopp carnival, perhaps Canada’s Maple Leaf Trot or one of the world’s greatest squaregaiting titles.
Only time will tell, but the road to that once improbable wish has now officially begun.
